Beginner Knitting    Liane Schwarz

Skill Level: absolute beginner

Monday Aug 18 & 25, 6:30-8pm

You'll learn all the basics: how to knit, purl, put stitches on your needle (cast on), finish up (cast off), change yarn in the middle of your project, weave in your ends, and how to read the information that comes on a ball of yarn.  You should be able to make a scarf in this class (but you have to do your homework, so get ready to spend a few hours of down time working on your 'assignment' in front of the TV).

·         Class consists of 2 sessions over 2 weeks

NEW Crocheted Cutie Booties and Baby Hat Workshop •  Liane Schwarz

Skill Level: beginner/intermediate

Monday August 4 &11, 6:30-8pm

With that adorable little someone in mind, this class will show you how to make a matching set of baby booties and hat for a newborn. You will add to your skill set by working in the round, shaping a dome, and turning a pint-size heel. And so cute you may not want to wait for the baby to make them.

NEW Autumn Beret Workshop  Liane Schwarz

Skill Level: intermediate-beginner

Tuesday August 26 & Sept 2, 6:30-8pm

To get a jump on the fall season, try this hat class on for size. Here you’ll learn all the usual hat basics—knitting in the round, knitting with double pointed needles, increasing and decreasing, navigating a hat pattern--plus how to shape the crown for a stylish tam, and how to make an I-cord knot (optional).

You must know how to cast-on, cast off, knit, purl and read a basic knitting pattern for this class.

My First Toe-Up Sock   Liane Schwarz

Skill Level: advanced-beginner

Tuesday Nov 4 & 11, 6:00-8pm

Socks seem hard, but they don't have to be. While you make your sock, you'll follow a pattern, use double pointed needles, increase, decrease and pick up and wrap stitches. You’ll also shape a toe without complicated grafting and turn a professional looking heel without the usual math. It doesn’t get any easier!   You must know how to knit, purl, cast-on & off for this class.

NEW Easy Baby Cardi   Liane Schwarz

Skill Level: intermediate

Monday Sept 8 & 15, 6:00-8pm

Whether you need baby steps to get you over the sweater hump or you need to outfit your favourite munchkin, this is the class for you. Learn how to read a sweater pattern, how to shape arms, necks and sleeves, how to add a basic button band, and how to put it all together in the end.

You must know how to cast-on, and  how to knit  and purl.

Skill Level: intermediate-beginner

Tuesday Sept 23 & 30, 6:30-8pm

Not quite ready for gloves or mittens? Try these beautiful wristlets. This class will teach you basic cabling techniques, how to use double pointed needles (without all the fuss), how to increase and decrease, and how to read a basic cable pattern. You must know how to knit, purl, cast-on & cast off for this class; knowing how to use circular needles is an asset.

NEW Top-Down Cardigan   Liane Schwarz

Skill Level: intermediate

NB: Thanksgiving week gives you plenty of time to get your homework done before the 2nd class

An excellent way to get your sweater feet wet!  In this workshop you’ll make a  simple neck-down sweater  that you can customize to suit your desires. Along the way you’ll learn the basics of shaping a raglan sweater, knitting sleeves, how to read a pattern, and simple finishing techniques. With this under your belt, you’ll have the courage to tackle that big pullover you’ve been dying to make.

Knitted Hat Workshop   Liane Schwarz

Skill Level: beginner (after scarves)

Tuesday Oct 7 & 14, 6:30-8pm

Monday Nov 24 & Dec 1, 6:30-8pm

The next step after making scarves is making hats! Hats are fast, easy, are very, very satisfying! We'll teach you how to knit in the round (on those funny looking Siamese twin needles), knit on double pointed needles (the ones that look like little chop sticks), decrease stitches and read a pattern. Knowing how to cast on and knit is the only requisite.

·         Consists of 2 sessions over 2 weeks.

Knit Mitten Workshop  Liane Schwarz

Skill Level: beginner (after hats)

Monday Nov 10 & 17, 6:30-8pm

The next step after making hats is making mitts! Mitts are a lot like hats: fast, easy, satisfying, inexpensive, and they make great gifts! We'll teach you how to knit in the round, on double pointed needles, (the ones that look like little chop sticks), decrease stitches, increase stitches, pick-up stitches and read a pattern. Knowing how to cast on and knit is the only requisite.

·         Consists of 2 sessions over 2 weeks.

·         $55 + tax (includes materials)

·         receive an $11 discount if you take the hat class

 

NEW Knitted Gloves  Liane Schwarz

Skill Level: advanced beginner

Tuesday Dec 2 & 9, 6:00-8pm

Feel like making glove? If you’re ready for the challenge, this is a very satisfying experience. Learn how to manipulate double pointed needles like a pro as you turn wrists, fingers and thumbs. When you’re done, you may just need a cigarette.

Felted Ballet Slippers Workshop Liane Schwarz

Skill Level: intermediate-beginner

Find out why felting is so addictive! Learn how to shape a slipper and how to wet-felt in one fell swoop! You'll follow a pattern, use circular needles, increase and decrease stitches, pick up stitches, and find out why I call my washing machine “the Felter”.

Beginner Crochet    Liane Schwarz

Skill Level: absolute beginner!

Crochet is fast, easy and becoming very popular. You'll learn all the basics: how to make a chain, the foundation stitches (single crochet, double crochet, treble crochet, slip stitch), how to follow a crochet pattern and read the information on a ball of yarn. You should be able to make a scarf after this class and if we have time (depending on student progress) a granny square or a crocheted flower.

·         Class consists of 2 sessions over 2 weeks.

·        $55 + tax (includes materials).

Class cost is $10/hour + materials + tax

 

Skill Levels

Absolute Beginner:  Never done it before or you can’t remember for the life of you how to do it! You don’t know how to do anything and need someone to hold your hand.

 

Beginner:  Just starting out, you’ve taken an intro class but you’re still making squares & scarves and it’s time to move on. Knitting: You already know how to cast on, cast off, knit and maybe purl. Crochet: you already know how to chain, single crochet, double crochet, maybe triple crochet.

 

Intermediate-Beginner: You’re getting into this thing and want to learn more skills. Knitting: you know how to decrease, read a simple pattern, maybe increase. Crochet: you know how to follow a simple pattern, maybe crochet in the round.

 

Advanced-Beginner: You’re in the groove, you’re becoming more independent and are ready to try some of the things that look hard. Knitting: you already know how to increase, follow basic patterns, consult a reference book or website. Crochet: you already know how to decrease, work in the round, follow basic patterns, consult a reference book or website.
