Project Help and Consulting

We are happy to help you out with your project!  We are friendly, knowledgeable professionals and we want you to enjoy your hobby as much as we do.  Help comes in many forms, so here is what we offer:

  • We'll help you find a project from our store. We can set you up with a pattern or you can bring in a pattern and we will help you find appropriate yarn and materials, plus give you the advice you need to make it work out successfully.
  • While choosing a project from our store, we can help you pick out the perfect colour and yarn to meet your needs. We can even help you combine colours, match your skin tone, or offer a clothing consultation.
  • We'll always help you find a project that is within your skill level. If the project you choose is beyond your capabilities we will advise you and can suggest alternatives.
  • If you have a question or need a little bit of quick help to get you on your way, just pop by and we'll help you out for free. This help is for questions that take approximately 5 to 10 minutes to address and would be appropriate if you need clarification on a specific direction or an abbreviation in a pattern, or if you need some quick help with a small technique, like making an increase. If your problem is more extensive or will take longer we will let you know and you can choose to book a private tutorial for $13.50/hour, 1/2 hour minimum.
  • If you want to take on a challenging project that is beyond your skill level we are happy to provide private tutorials, by appointment, for $13.50/hour. To make an appointment please call us at least 1 day in advance at (416) 653-7849.
  • We can help you revise, alter or design a pattern or project (subject to project constraints) for $40/hour, 1/2 hour minimum.

Events
Stitch 'n Bitch

What is a Stitch 'N Bitch?  A Stitch 'N Bitch is a social knitting group.  We gather and chat while we knit and/or crochet. Stitch 'n Bitch is free and you can just drop in and join us.  You don't have to bring anything other than yourself and your knitting/crochet (or you can purchase a project here). Stitch 'n Bitch is strictly a social event, teaching is NOT conducted during these hours by staff or other attendees. If you need help with your project please call us at (416) 653-7849 or e-mail to make an appointment for a private class/tutorial.
  • Tuesdays    12pm to 4pm (Mondays during  July & August)
  • Thursdays   5pm to 8 pm
  • Sundays     1pm to 5pm  (Saturdays from June15 to Labour Day)

Yarn Swap

What is a Yarn Swap?  A yarn swap is a big eco-friendly redistribution of yarn, needles and other craft supplies. Bring in the crafty stuff you never want to see again and deposit it in one of our baskets. Poke around at  all the other donations and take home whatever you like. It's OK If you don't have any yarn to bring, you can still take whatever you like. Don't be embarrassed by the quality of yarn you bring, whatever is left over is donated to charities like Street Knit, Sistering Toronto, Women's Shelters and the Hospital for Sick Children, most of whom prefer acrylic!

  • Upcoming yarn swaps for 2010:  May 30, July 3, July 24, August 28, September 26
  • Held monthly on the 4th Sunday of every month (Saturdays in June, July & August), 1pm to 5pm

We also accept donations of yarn, which are given to school groups, Sistering, Street Knit, Silver Circle West Toronto Services for Seniors, and a seniors group affiliated with the Canadian Jewish Congress who make blankets for the Hospital for Sick Children and for Women's Shelters.

You can drop off donations any time the store is open (see our hours above or on our home page).  Please drop off donations in a sealed plastic bag or garbage bag and we'll make sure it makes it to happy hands!

If you would like yarn donations for your group, please contact us at  (416) 653-7849 or e-mail and tell us about your organization and needs. If you would like donations for an individual (like your granny) we host a yarn swap once a month (see above) where you can take what you need from whatever is in our donation bins.
