Berroco Olive Poncho/Wrap Project

This one’s for the new knitters, the prodigal knitters, and the more seasoned knitters who are struggling with what I affectionately call “pandemic brain”. This FREE pattern from Berroco is a very simple, very beginner-friendly poncho/wrap. It’s basically a big rectangle that’s seamed up the side.

Skills Required

Nothing fancy, bust the basics …. I’ve linked to video tutorials for all of the skills:

More Yarn Options

This pattern calls for or 800(1000)m of worsted weight yarn, so you’ve got lots of options ….

  • Malabrigo Rios: 4(5) skeins … Rios is a beautiful hand-dyed, super soft machine washable merino wool. The dyeing is spectacular, you’ll fall in love with your poncho immediately!
  • Drops Air: 6(7) skeins … this light as air yarn has a soft halo of baby alpaca that makes is beautiful to work with and incredibly cozy to wear!
  • Cascade 220 Superwash: 4(5) skeins … this 100% peruvian wool is machine washable, easy to work with, and comes in a broad spectrum of beautiful colours.
  • Berroco Comfort Stripes: 4(5) skeins … this yarn is soft, easy to care for (machine wash and dryable) and comes in a bunch of bright, fun colours.
  • Drops Brushed Alpaca & Silk: 6(8) balls … we’ve made a wrap with this yarn before, so it’s gonna be gorgeous! Super soft, light and fluffy, this yarn is like wearing a cloud. I wouldn’t recommend it for new knitters, but advanced-beginners should be fine with it, and intermediate knitters won’t have a problem. Needles on the pointier side will be helpful with this yarn.
