About Us
At Knit-O-Matic we love to knit (and crochet and needle felt), and we want to share our obsession with you because we know you'll love it as much as we do. We are a bricks & mortar, mom & pop knitting store in the heart of midtown Toronto Canada. Since we opened our doors in 2004 our focus has been on you and what you want and need to enjoy your hobby.Â

Project Help and Consulting
We are happy to help you out with your project! Help comes in many forms, so here is what we offer:
Free Services
-
We'll help you find a project from our store.Â
-
We can set you up with a pattern or you can bring in a pattern and we will help you find appropriate yarn and materials, plus give you the advice you need to make it work out successfully.
-
While choosing a project from our store, we can help you pick out the perfect colour and yarn to meet your needs. We can even help you combine colours, match your skin tone, or offer a clothing consultation.
-
We'll always help you find a project that is within your skill level. If the project you choose is beyond your capabilities we will advise you and can suggest alternatives.
-
If you have a question or need a little bit of quick help to get you on your way, please call us at 416-653-7849 to make an appointment and we'll help you out for free. This help is for questions that take approximately 5 to 10 minutes to address and would be appropriate if you need clarification on a specific direction or an abbreviation in a pattern, or if you need some quick help with a small technique, like making an increase. If your problem is more extensive or will take longer we will let you know and you can choose to book a private tutorial.
Paid Services
-
If you want to take on a challenging project that is beyond your current skill level we are happy to provide private tutorials, by appointment, for $22.97/hour. To make an appointment you can Book Online, or call us (at least 1 day in advance) at 416-653-7849.
-
We can help you revise or alter a pattern/project (subject to project constraints) for $50/hour, 1/2 hour minimum.Â
Unfortunately, because knitting and crochet are both physical and visual, we can not offer project help over the phone. Please contact us to make an appointment to come in: (416) 653-7849.
If you are looking for an unfamiliar pattern abbreviation and can't find it anywhere in your pattern/book/magazine you can try looking it up on the Craft Yarn Council's Marster Abbreviation Litst.

Please note, Sit & Knit is strictly a social event, teaching is NOT conducted during these hours by staff or other attendees. If you need help with your project please call us at 416-653-7849 to make an appointment for a private lesson.
Yarn Swap
A yarn swap is a big eco-friendly redistribution of yarn, needles and other craft supplies. Bring in the crafty stuff you never want to see again and deposit it in one of our baskets. Poke around at all the other donations and take home whatever you from the donations. Don't be embarrassed by the quality of yarn you bring, whatever is left over is donated to charities like Street Knit, Sistering, Silver Circle Seniors Services, and Gilda's Club, most of whom prefer acrylic!
- Upcoming Swaps:Â Â SEE HEREÂ Â
Charity KnittingÂ
You can drop off your hand knit and crochet donations and we'll send them to a suitable donor (see below for our current recipients). We also accept donations of yarn, which are given to organizations that knit for charity and school groups. Please drop off donations in a sealed plastic bag or garbage bag and we'll make sure it makes it to happy hands!
